Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title since the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
