The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
